I am a photographer based out of India. My passion lies in capturing images of people I’m intrigued by—their faces, the stories behind them, their lifestyles, cultures, and traditions. I like endlessly roaming around the streets, wherever I go, and spend time learning and understanding my subjects. Also, as is apparent from my blog, I do have a soft corner for portraits and images in black and white! If you would like to work with me for assignments and commissioned works, get in touch with me here.
About This Photoblog:
On August 1, 2008 I started this photoblog to showcase the images of people that I shoot and creating images for this photoblog has always been an exciting and fulfilling challenge. As a mark of my fondness for black and white, this site uses only different shades of grey for all its elements.
The Image Reflection came in the Top 500 category in the Nat Geo Moment Awards 2011.
The image Traditional pottery making came in the top 10 in the ‘Altered Images’ category of the Smithsonian magazine’s 7th annual photo contest from more than 60,000 entries they received from all over the world.
My entry Monsoon wait was amongst the top 20 finalists for the Nikon-Better Photography Photographer of the Year 2009 Awards from 40,000 plus entries. My entry was nominated in the Landscapes & Cityscapes theme.

Could I get your e-mail id, we are trying to get in touch with photography bloggers in order to introduce an exciting platform wherein people can rent awesome camera gear to pursue their passion for photography. We would love to get your thoughts on it.
A wonderful site! Thanks for visiting my site. It is interesting and exciting to see how others use the camera, catching other facets of the world. I look forward to following your photographs.
Thank you for visiting my blog. I’m honored you appreciated something there. I’m glad it led me to you and your work. I’m in the process (a long process,) of writing a fictional story that takes place in the ancient middle east but has characters of all races within it. Your portraits might help me imagine and develop some of my fictional characters more clearly. Your works are beautiful and deep. Moving.
HI there! I know I don’t have to tell you what fantastic photographs you have here. No question there at all! Really brilliant stuff.
I know you from IB where you regularly promote my posts. I’m thankful that you do. As a rule I do not promote any posts on IB, but instead prefer to interact directly on the blog / posts in question. As I am doing here.
Once again, thanks for visiting and liking my writing. Some day I hope my writing reaches the level of proficiency you exhibit with your photographs.
Hmmm . . . here I thought you’d stopped posting stuff. I am following your blog, but I stopped receiving e-mail notices. I switched that on again.
I looked at a lot of your recent stuff, and rather than comment on each one (i..e. great, nice, very good, etc.) I will say I continue to be impressed with your photography. I don’t do people shots, but if I did I would aspire to your photographic ability.
Hi, I am Haritha John, reporter of a news portal The News Minute, I would like to do a feature on nude photography in India. So in that I would like to mention about yours photography too. I would like to talk to you, can you pass me your contact number or email id? Thank you
Viber is a leading social messaging app in India and globally. In addition to free messaging and calling, it has a host of other interesting features like doodles, animated stickers and a lot more.
Viber has recently introduced a feature called “Public Chats” where you can form a group & share content like blogs, articles, images, videos etc. As a gesture of Viber’s influencer outreach, we would like you to be a part of the Viber’s Public Chats. The following are the top 7 out of a million reasons, on why you should be on Viber’s Public Chats.
1. You get an opportunity to reach out to a 40 Million user base of Viber, in India.
2. The audience profile of Viber is very premium because most of the message senders are also ISD callers.
3. Viber is spam-free and does not do push marketing. Hence the user base is organic and genuine.
4. The participation on Viber’s Public Chats as a feature, is only by Invite . So you can get the first mover advantage and an opportunity to make a large follower base . We have celebs and prominent personalities like Narendra Modi , Sri Sri Ravi Shankar , Priyanka chopra , Miss Malini etc., who are currently active on Viber’s Public Chats platform.
5. You can also invite your friends to join your blog and participate in the Public Chats channel, by posting content.
6. This becomes your additional social media handle which can be used for blogging about your brands and topics.
7. Unlike Facebook, where only 3-5% of your follower base gets to view your update, Viber delivers 100% viewership of your content, across your follower base.
If interested, you can share the following details with us on this mail id so that we can create your Public Chats profile on Viber.
– Profile picture for your Chat (Preferably square)
– Name of the chat (This is what other’s will see)
– ID of the chat (This is for backend )
– Tags or keywords for chat (This should be popular search words for your Chat)
– One line for description of your Chat Room (For others to know what it is about)
– Phone Number (On which you have downloaded Viber and will be used for your Chat)
As a token of appreciation, we would also be glad to provide you some of our official merchandise and gifts. Request you to share your postal address for the same.
Hi Joshi, thank you so much for liking my post ‘Lost in London’. Like yourself, one of my passions is for black & white photography. You have a wonderful eye & a rich black & white portfolio. I’ve just followed you & look forward to future images you post.
Thank you for following my blog. On the last day of every month, I feature a blogger as my “closing comrade.” Many of your pictures intrigue and inspire me, and I would like to share some of your pictures and a little about you on my blog. Please email me at cheerduck14@yahoo.com if you are interested. I look forward to working with you.
Hi, Mr. Daniel
I am a fan of your photography and have been going through your facebook for a while now. I am here to tell you about these bookazines, I have been marketing in India. Considering that it is a new concept, I am going to tell you in brief about what a bookazine is. Basically, they are high-quality, book/magazine hybrids in various streams. I have a few in Photography; namely- The canon camera book (v1), Digital photography for beginners (4th ed), The Black and White photography book (v1, 3rd ed), Photoshop tips, tricks & fixes (v6), and Digital photographer annual (v1).
These bookazines cover all the essentials about the area they are covering and also provide suggestions and other information.
They will be provided to you at your doorstep and you don’t have to buy them on subscription basis. It is a one time, relatively cheap, investment of Rs695 only. If you want to know more about any of these, you can contact me on my email anytime. It is- bookazines@gmail.com.
If you think that someone else might be benefited from these, then kindly recommend as we will revert to whoever shows an interest.
Thank you for your precious time!
Wanted to let you know that every time you like one of my posts I jump inside with glee! It’s a real honor that you visit my post at all, let alone like anything of mine!

Went through your blog, and now i feel incompitent to do anything :P Let alone taking pictures. Your work is KICKASS. BEYOND KICKASS.
There is not one thing that I did not like.
Thanks for taking the time to look at and like my post! I am new to blogging and photography so I will certainly be looking at your blog a lot for inspiration!
I do enjoy viewing images of wrinkled, wizened faces. Many of yours, however, leave me feeling you are just snapping, rarely penetrating to the soul of your subjects.Their stares are blank. Just my opinion. Your captions rarely capture an essence, somehow missing the mark. There is nothing wrong with snapping; yet I hope you succeed in allowing them to gaze into your soul as you try to envelop theirs. I lived in Bombay years before you were born. You may see a few of my images taken around India 50 years back in Picasa albums. I recommend the photos of French photographers Roland and Sabrina Michaud taken in 60s, 70s and 80s. There you will find soul. Sincerely, Michael Gannett, Burlington Vermont.
Thanks for the invite! Like the image of a Paniya tribal woman in Wayanad. Kerala is by far my favorite state. Found high unemployment among these tribals when I visited eight years ago; unfortunately I didn’t get around much because it was the monsoon season at this time of year (Aug); I was the only guest in a bnb, which became well known to Bangaloreans because of a post I did with TripAdvisor. Would be interesting to do genetic testing to determine origin of these tribals. Seems to the untrained eye she resembles an Australian aboriginal. Would love to visit again. Cheers from Neal Pond, Lunenburg Vermont.
I’ll reserve future photo commenting for direct email. May I have yours? Mine is mgannett@aol.com. Coincidentally, I am hanging out with my grandson Josh (for Joshua, somewhat analogous to Joshi), 13, son of Jennifer (born in Bombay, 1972). He and I will be traveling in Belize come February. He’s into scuba, cave tubing, zip-lining, all things “teens”, which I am happy to relate to. By-the-by, what is your full-time line of work, photography-wise? Mine is “retired” and “shutter-bugging” at 72! To complete the picture, I worked at Bank of America, Nariman Point five years (lived on B. Desai Rd) and out of Channapatna, Karnataka for 10 years, creating and exporting/importing handicrafts of my design. My first and late wife Hazel was from Ajmer, Raj. Phir milenge. Cheers, Mike
Thank you for visiting my blog and enabling me to find yours. I absolutely love your photos, they show so much character such impact. I look forward to returning to your site for more. Kay
Hope this finds you well.
First of all I would like to introduce myself, my name is Fikri and I’m from Indonesia currently working as a representative of Ministry of Tourism of Indonesia.
I would like to contact you in a private setting, would like to give me an email address?
Hi Josh, thanks so much for popping in to see my photos which led me to see your incredible work! Im not a photographer, its just something I am putting a little bit of energy into, I am a painter for over 40 years, thats my real niche. Looking forward to more of your fabulous images. Cheers, Rick
Hi Joshi,
First of all, thanks for the LIke of my website and my ‘Bali indha’ book. Your site is great, with wonderful pictures. I have been living in SEAsia for almost 30 years and had a great time there. I was India only once, at the Taj Mahal. Keep up your wonderful work.
Hey Josh! I’m here because you liked a post on my blog. I just read through all of your accomplishments and I can’t wait to look at your photography and share it with my girlfriend, who is also a photographer!
A very interesting blog you have here and certainly an inspirational tale of the human face and condition. I feel humbled that you took the time to follow my blog. Thank you. Chevvy

I’m glad I checked this out.
I really liked your nude artworks; wanted to ‘like’ them but I’m just technologically handicapped- can’t figure out how.
Anyway, you’re fucking talented.
Just wanted to let you know that you’re great at capturing intimacy. Your photos are beautiful- aesthetically and emotionally.
Hello Joshi,
Any good spots in Mumbai you would recommend for some Divali related photography leadind up to Divali? Appreciate your input and kind assistance.
Thanks and regards, Ken
Thanks for the like. I often take a a peak at the sites of those who have liked our work…but must say I was ‘gobsmacked’ when yours popped up on my laptop. A bit overwhelming to have not only such quality work, but so many ‘souls’ (as opposed to merely faces) looking back. Happy to give you a follow…
I just want to drop by and say my greetings. I enjoy browsing your photos. They’re full of emotions and they’re amazingly taken. Inspiring and beautiful. Keep it up!
Daniel… you are a true inspiration for portraits. The post processing is jusssst out of this world. Could resist myself from trying hands at one….
Do have a look https://pankajdhoot.wordpress.com/2015/11/17/seasoned/
Hello Joshi, I saw your work and you have some great photos. I would like to use one of your photos in a article I am writing. Thanks for contacting me back.
Hello and thank you so much for liking my photography! Your work is absolutely stunning so it means the world to me that my little blog got noticed by you. xx
i am mainly capturing macro images along with some potraits, light paintings, perspectives, some pictures with studio lights. I am honoured as you, a proffesional commented, liked my picture. One was the crane one,the other water splash with studio lights.
Hi Joshi,
It means a lot to me that you keep visiting my humble little blog and leaving a ‘like’ in your wake. I view your work here as some of the best there is so I always see a like from you as an honour. I’ll keep aspiring and watching for what you’ve observed next.
the only word that comes to mind to describe your photos is incredible…I take photos and have for a few years on and off. I don’t have the skills or talent to consider calling myself a photographer…I do it for the enjoyment of it and to be the best I can be. In the past I’ve followed professional photographers simply to learn what I can to improve my skills! I do inform those I follow why I’m doing it…I think I can learn a great deal from observing what you do! I look forward to more of your photos! H
I must began by letting you know I really enjoy going through your work.
I am writing to you regarding an initiative, Broke Explorers, to promote the raw spirit of traveling and exploring in India.. especially when everything is getting so commercialized and turning luxury-focused.
When I see your work, I see an eye which observes and explores people and places in a very raw manner. I was wondering if you would like to be a part of this community by adding to it in some manner.
If you feel interested and/or aligned with the spirit of the initiative, we can discuss more on how we can have you on board. Though, one must know there is nothing monetary to offer to any of the members. In fact, it is the whole idea of everything running on money we stand up against. We would love to talk about your work on Broke Explorers though.
I am having a Client from Travel industry, and I wanted to publish a Guest post(SEO optimized + Fresh Content, written by Content writer) on your blog.
Let me know if you accept guest posts I’ll share the topic that I am willing to share on the Blog.
Hi Joshi – I am Vidya and here through Indiblogger where we follow each other! :)
I am looking for the help of some fashion photographers for my handbag blog. Do you do such work? If not, could you please refer me to some of your friends who could help me?
Hi Joshi,
Thanks for stopping by my blog, much appreciated.
I think your photos are absolutely amazing. I tend to photograph anything but people, and maybe that’s because my photos of people would look so average. You are one of few who can capture a whole lifetime in a persons face.
I truly admire your work!
Laura

I’m scheduled to be in India for the third time in the end of the 2016. Honestly I was reluctant to come back, the dissonance between the high lifestyle and the vast poverty really struck me last time I was there.
since my last time I think I managed to change my perspective, I no longer compare life styles, rather I try to enjoy each lifestyle as its own.
I’ve taken on a personal challenge, going on 1000 trips and finishing on the summit of Everest – would love for you to visit my blog and give me your opinion on things.
also would love to stay in contact for when I’m in India:)
Absolutely loving your blog. I am one of the founders at Remedi, an android app which allows users to get their Medicines and other healthy products in 90 minutes. I wanted to know if we could use one of your Images for a social campaign we are planning to run to get medicines for the Orphans in Navi Mumbai as these orphanages are seriously underfunded. We would be grateful if you could help us out!
Sweet photographs…a special honoring of the spirit of the people and places you photograph. Thank you. I look forward to seeing more of your site. As a former photographer, I appreciate your work so much. You may enjoy my blog, http://www.michadam.wordpress.com, which tells the Journey of Spirit and Healing I went through as I wrote my novel, Child of Duende. As a very visual person, I try to paint a picture of inner and outer landspaces with words. Blessings.

Thanks for the like. I often take a a peak at the sites of those who have liked our work…but must say I was ‘gobsmacked’ when yours popped up on my laptop. A bit overwhelming to have not only such quality work, but so many ‘souls’ (as opposed to merely faces) looking back. Happy to give you a follow…

the only word that comes to mind to describe your photos is incredible…I take photos and have for a few years on and off. H

Dear Joshi Daniel
I must began by letting you know I really enjoy going through your work.
I am writing to you regarding an initiative, Broke Explorers, to promote the raw spirit of traveling and exploring in India.. especially when everything is getting so commercialized and turning luxury-focused.
When I see your work, I see an eye which observes and explores people and places in a very raw manner. I was wondering if you would like to be a part of this community by adding to it in some manner.
Here is the facebook page:
https://www.facebook.com/brokeexplorers/
and how the blog is getting built up as of now:
http://brokeexplorers.tumblr.com/
If you feel interested and/or aligned with the spirit of the initiative, we can discuss more on how we can have you on board. Though, one must know there is nothing monetary to offer to any of the members. In fact, it is the whole idea of everything running on money we stand up against. We would love to talk about your work on Broke Explorers though.
Warmly
Soumya

Hi Joshi,

I think your photos are absolutely amazing. I tend to photograph anything but people, and maybe that’s because my photos of people would look so average. You are one of few who can capture a whole lifetime in a persons face.
I truly admire your work!
