About

About Me:

I am a photographer based out of India. My passion lies in capturing images of people I’m intrigued by—their faces, the stories behind them, their lifestyles, cultures, and traditions. I like endlessly roaming around the streets, wherever I go, and spend time learning and understanding my subjects. Also, as is apparent from my blog, I do have a soft corner for portraits and images in black and white! If you would like to work with me for assignments and commissioned works, get in touch with me here.

About This Photoblog:

On August 1, 2008 I started this photoblog to showcase the images of people that I shoot  and creating images for this photoblog has always been an exciting and fulfilling challenge. As a mark of my fondness for black and white, this site uses only different shades of grey for all its elements.

  3. CAPTURE YOUR STREETS-Photography Contest
Prizes worth INR 10k to be won!!!!

Photography is an art that takes passion and perfection, an eye for those moments that get lost in the mundane daily life. If you think you’ve got it in you to see what others miss, and to capture life with a click, get your shutter box out and celebrate the streets with us and the whole world. Capture the enigma of the streets and share your street moments with us at Waves 2012 – Relive the streets!

    Theme: Stories on the streets
    When: Starting right now.
    Reward: Prizes worth INR 10K!!

    What you should do:
    1. Click a great picture to capture your street moment.
    2. Give the click a title and a caption, to complete the story that you want your picture to tell.
    3. Send it to us at – online_events@bits-waves.org

A maximum of two entries per person per week is allowed. In case of more than two entries, only the first two will be considered.

    What you shouldn’t do:
    1. Telling somebody else’s story. We hate plagiarism. Only original clicks allowed.
    2. Sending a picture without a title and caption. A story is never complete without a title. We’d love to know what was on your mind the moment you were clicking your street.

You don’t need to have an expensive camera to click a great photograph. So get those phones/cameras out and start clicking! Prizes worth INR 10k to be won!

You inspire my to look at travel from a more personal level by truly interacting with the people of a destination and not just the amazing architecture. In recognition of your work, I’ve nominated you to receive the “Adventurous Blogger Award.” Here’s a link for more information. Cheers.

  6. Great collection of images, very thoughtful in your approach to photography. Your use of B&W, getting the tones you want and the details where needed – I like this a lot. Have you considered film as an alternative?

    1. Thank you very much! Appreciate the compliment! I actually have a degree in acting and I do love theatre and film. I’ve absolutely considered that as an option! And yes–found a working code out there for the images. Wondering if you know how I can remove the “comment” number on the post when you hover as well as the title of the image? That and my Facebook thumbnails being wrong are my only two remaining issues with triton lite! Appreciate t-thank you!

I hope you find a lot of success in whatever you do and I hope that some day I’m 1/4th as good as you are.

  20. Hello Joshi,

I hope this message finds you well. My name is Miles Solay and I am the singer of Outernational, a New York City-based rock and roll band. I am writing to you specifically about a photograph of yours, In These Hands.

First, let me just say that your photographs are powerful in their tremendous conveyance of humanity and the beauty of the people whose lives are worth so much, yet who are unseen, unheard and held down in this day and age.

Outernational is an independent band that is working very hard to get its revolution rock (music about the emancipation of humanity) out to a new generation. We are about to release new music, an EP called ‘Here Is The Rose’ which is made up of four songs, stories about women…. I am attaching one of the songs to this email for you to listen and enjoy.

We love your photograph and would like to use it as the cover art this upcoming release. The release is just around the corner, as we are going to announce it online by February 1st. Initially, the songs will be available as a free download and then in the spring we will put them for sale on our website and print up a couple hundred CDs to give to radio stations and people in the music industry, as well as some fans.

I would love to use your photograph and expose a whole new audience to this work from India. I would like your permission and would like to work something out. Unfortunately, we are of very meager means and our funding is scarce right now and, as such we cannot offer much if any money. Please let me know if this is something we can possibly work out. As you can see below, the band is well connected so there would be lots of exposure for your photograph in a new areas.

Here’s a little background about our band:

Please let me know that you received this email and let me know what you’re thinking. Looking forward to speaking further!

    All the best,
    Miles Solay

  28. Hi Joshi, Shovon here. I do weird stuff on a blog called India Update. I think you’ve seen a few. I want to do something, which is kind of a fake research report on Facebook, in a series of postings, called ‘The Trilokpuri Incident’. I have always loved the humanity in your pictures. Would you by any chance have any pictures of a poor Sikh person – man, or woman? The victims were mostly poor people, because they were easier to kill. I need one for the cover of the FB page. I can’t pay you anything because I’m not making any money. In any case, if any money were to ever come out of this, it should obviously go to the survivors. Can you help with a shot? I’d be very grateful. After the first couple of posts in the series, if you’re offended or annoyed, I’ll remove it. But I can’t start this without the right picture. It goes without saying that I would acknowledge you. Cheers! Shovon
