Pictured here is Kalamandalam Sindhu applying make-up before a Kutiyattam (Koodiyattam) performance in Trivandrum, Kerala, India.
Here is a feature that WordPress did on the completion of nine years of my photoblog – Joshi Daniel on Nine Years of Photoblogging.

What beautiful light on her face. I assume that’s reflected from the mirror she’s holding. Love the composition of this portrait also.

Beautiful !! Reminds me of the Bharatnatyam pre- performance makeup I saw at Kochi in 1999. The colours have a meaning- white, black each mean something. Is Kutiyattam a classical dance format?

Oops sorry . That was Kathakali, not Bharatnatyam. My little grey cells are going haywire these days !!

Beautiful picture, and congratulation for the nine years of photoblogging. I have to say that I feel very happy every time you upload a picture. Even when I don’t comment, I feel inspire by the picture. I’ve read the article on wordpress, and I saw that you use a 28mm lens for portrait ?! This means that there is no rule in Photography, only intuition.
All the best, Joshi

The 28mm Portraits project is a new thing. Mostly I was shooting on a 85mm lens and now 28mm :)
