Maha Kumbh Mela is the world’s largest religious gathering and is held at Prayag every 12 years. The Kumbh Mela is considered to be an especially auspicious time to bathe in the holy waters of Sangam (confluence of Ganga, Yamuna and mythical Saraswati) in Allahabad (Prayag) for purification from sin.

  1. Oh how I envy you Joshi, you went to the Kumbh Mela! I would love to watch this huge event with my own eyes but fortunately I can watch it through your eyes! Beautiful portrait.

  2. Gorgeous. I love the light – how it seems to illuminate him from the rest of the photo – and what draws me in the most is the pensive look in his eyes.

  3. Reblogged this on The Noah Project and commented:
Saying the world’s largest religious gathering doesn’t begin to cover the scope of this event. Over 100 million Hindus gather in Allahbad for the festival, with approximately half a million pilgrims camping on the festival grounds for the entire event. It is the largest migration of humanity on the earth.

  4. Fine work in every way, Joshi. Thanks for the information on this remarkable event as well. Best wishes!
