Kashmiri man standing in front of his house in Anantnag, Jammu and Kashmir. When I walked up to this house, a lot of children started to gather around in front of me and started filling up my frame. Everyone was so excited to be photographed and to see the images.

  1. Beautiful picture! I really like how the colour of the sky changes in the background, sort of blending in on the left side of the picture, and making a big contrast to the colour of the house on the right side. And how those textiles hanging sort of light up, and pick up the colours of the house. :)

  2. I friend of mine who travels to far away places like this, Joshi, prints polaroid-like images on a wee printer for her iPhone, to give to kids like these…some of whom have never had a photo of themselves. I thought of that immediately when I saw this.

  3. I love this shot, Joshi. You photograph people in so many places that I would love to visit. I moved around a lot growing up – my father was in the service, and I had to opportunity to live in very interesting places. I wish I had had access to digital photography all those decades ago. But I wouldn’t have thought to photograph people back then. I was interested in objects and landscapes at the time.
